How many writer-director duos are there these days anyway? Besides, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are better Wink

There's also the Wachowski brothers and Joel and Ethan Cohen.

Peter Jackson sucks. Tongue

Carrie: (1976)
This film begins as alot of older films started, a bunch of high school girls naked in the school showers... Only in this one, young outcast Carrie just starts her period and because her mother is a jesus loving wench, Carrie has no idea what is going on and thinks she is dying. Girls make fun of her etc. From there is it just an epic, awesome trip to Carrie's prom where the film reaches it's highest point. I would definately recommend this film to anyone.
9/10

THANK YOU

Nevledine/Taylor, easily the most consistently entertaining writing and directing duo I've ever known. Not much of a fan of Michael C. Hall but he's easily the highlight here, stealing every scene with his over the top performance. This film is flawless entertainment, and probably the most entertaining film I've ever seen (perhaps with the exception of Crank: High Voltage). The action is intense and brutal, and the scenes in 'Society' are brilliantly quirky. Love this film, highly recommended.

5 stars?

mmm not for me... i didn't mind the movie but i wouldn't give it 5

Watched a shitload of movies lately..

Beauty and the Beast - 2/5

Bit of a yawn fest.

The Blind Side - 4/5

Enjoyed it.

Old Dogs - 5/5

Laughed a shitload.

Evil Dead - 3/5

Enjoyable for an 80's horror.

Imagine That - 3/5

Eddie Murphy shines. Although it was a kids movie he was hilarious.

A Letter from Death Row - 1/5

Crap! Also Martin Sheen was in the movie for 5 minutes max.

Dorian Gray - 4/5

Timeless story about a man with a portrait. Colin Firth was hilarious in this.

Good to see you around again Lisa, but I lolled so much when I saw 5/5 for Old Dogs and that you said Dorian Gray is about a man with a portrait.

Old Dogs was lighthearted, I liked it. Dorian Gray is a man in a portrait if I'm not mistaken?

The portrait is of him, but so that he can retain his youthful beauty it ages instead of him. It isn't alive in any way, it is just an allegory.

Keen to see carrie, and i have no idea how they could do justice to Dorian Gray in film, and im not game to try it. Plus for some reason i got colin farrell and colin firth mixed up, and i hate colin farrell. Whats Gamer about?

I watched Aladdin the other day, i think id still rate that 5/5, such a solid movie.

If its your decision to be open about yourself, be careful or else.

Law Abiding Citizen was pretty darn good. fitting ending and some brutality. some annoying things like Jaime Foxx being a lawyer and searching crime scenes and stuff like that. but good movie

IGN really didn't like Shutter Island, which surprised me. If Ben Affleck can produce a brilliant adaptation of Lehane how is it that Scorsese could not, especially in a genre like this. Films like Cape Fear weren't great, but with The Departed under his belt Scorsese should be able to direct this film in his sleep.

Gamer is about the future, somewhat like Death Race, where prisoners are used to make money. However, this guy invented some dna shit so they can make prisoners be controlled by gamers, in this virtual reality type game, where they try to kill everyone else.
Like Death Race, if they win a certain amount, then they are free, so there's a big incentive.

Just saw A Single Man, with Colin Firth.

It was a good story, and it all flowed well, but what really amazed me was the technical side of it.
It's set in 1962, so the film is slightly grainy to give it a 60's feel.
It's got a very washed out, grey/blue colour to it, except when the main character feels happy or alive, when it goes into vivid colour, then for the ending it fades to complete greyscale.

The camera angles aren't conventional and they really work nicely.

It was fun to watch.

Although, I felt bad laughing at a suicide attempt, but he was fussing about getting blood on the sheets, so it was pretty hilarious.

haha, it was O..K, until it started turning into the north pole in his room, thats when i was like 'ok lame'.
just that sense of helplessnessm and in the trailer when someone says to leo 'did you take a pill?' that reminded me of when in 1408 he thinks his drink got spiked. i dunno. looks ALOT better than 1408 tho. haha

lol. It is definitely not like 1408. Lehane's novels are about personal crimes, and though this has a lot more flair than most of the others it will nevertheless carry that tone...hopefully.

It is hard to come to terms with the fact that this film was directed by a 57 year-old female, even if that female was Kathryn Bigelow, director of Point Break and U571. Not because it is an action film, not because it is a war film, but because in the end the film is about embracing what you love, no matter the implications. Going any further into it will spoil the brief moments of conversation in this film, made all the more special by dialogue that exists only because it is imperative in the scenes that define this film. On the poster it quotes someone as saying this is a 'full-tilt action film', but it really isn't. Most of this film is a well paced collaboration of scenarios that excite and unnerve the viewer in their simplicity and slow progression. It is when the film tries to develop morals that it loses some of its strength, but these scenes are still effective.

After watching this film I thought 'this is what Generation Kill would have been like if it was set after the initial invasion'. Then I remembered Bigelow directed several key episodes for Homicide, the show based on David Simon's novel, and I can't help but wonder if the two keep on an eye on each other's projects.

All in all a subtle, well-performed, tension-filled film worthy of your attention for its 127 minute running time.

I got me an ego boosting sig. Finally!

Vacation (1983) - * * *

Chevy Chase... lulz

Where The Wild Things Are (2009) - * * * 1/2

Nice little film that could have been amazing if it hadn't pandered to being a children's film and been less surface with the emotional interactions.

Before Sunrise (1995) - * * * * *

Brilliant film. Romantic, realistic and funny with excellent dialogue.

Before Sunset (2004) - * * * * *

Watching them back to back gave a pretty bleak contrast of the differences between younger and middle aged life. Not as brilliant as Before Sunrise, but still a solid five stars.

Up In The Air (2009) - * * * *

Brilliant up until the final third, where it seems to lose its footing. It does have a nice quirky ending and Clooney was brilliant.
