Are they all morons who say a movie is bad because the actors have accents. If the aliens had been voiced by Hugo Weaving would that have made it ok?

My general theory is that Hugo Weaving has something to do with every film made this decade.

And that's why I chose him. Even IMDB hasn't kept up with the amount of work he's done this decade. It's incredible.

anyone seen Mysterious Skin?
wow, that movie is disturbing and touching at the same time. the scene in the bathroom is just brutal.
gave me visions of American History X, but it tops that just for brutallity.
it really got me thinking that their are some fucked up people who do these things.
The business man who pays $50 to go down on Neil just seemed all to real for some reason.

(500) Days of Summer
I enjoyed the movie. It takes into perspective what happens to a guy when a chick he loves doesn't like him/breaks up with him. Females may not fully understand/appreciate a delve into a cliche males psyche. Gordon-Levitt's and Deschanel's performances were outstanding and have amazing chemistry between each other.
I'm hestitant to call this a romantic comedy as it doesn't fit into a typical romantic comedy - and its original. Its been called a boy gets girl, girl break up with guy, and he has to get over it. In reality I don't think he ever truely 'got' her in the first place.

His name is Aranofsky, and he has done Pi (which was very good), The Fountain (mediocre at best), and The Wrestler (which gives us Mickey Rourke as The Ram, which I consider the best performance of all time).

He was replying to me Mitch. I was talking about Araki.
Hayden, you're totally right, Requiem for a Dream was FULL of desperation. Haha.
Araki has done Doom Generation and Nowhere, which are my other favourite films by the man. Splendor was also quite good, but I didn't love it as much. Totally F*cked Up was also quality. If you are made uncomfortable by homosexuality, I would advise against seeing Totally F*cked Up and Nowhere though. Avoid Smiley Face, it was bad and depressed me that he was reduced to such shit after Mysterious Skin. Then again, at least he didn't write it, just directed it.

Or we could just say no film classifies as a comedy unless someone sporadically falls over, or a film isn't sci-fi if we don't get at least one alien.
Kaufman is a master of human emotion, and because of this his ability to inject comedy into a film with a serious tone seems extremely natural. Being John Malkovich is set mostly in an office built between two floors. Adaptation traverses into the bizarre to make a not-so-subtle stab at the Hollywood system of scriptwriting. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has surreal elements that take Kaufman's ideas and bring them to the boarder of insanity.
If I'm laughing all the way through these films, why aren't they comedies?
EDIT: Oh, he meant the director of Mysterious Skin. I thought you just abbreviated Aranofsky for some reason.

I am all for dark and black comedies, but if a movie such as Eternal Sunshine has a couple of comedic elements, no more than the sci-fi, fantasy, thriller and adventure elements, it should not be lumped lazily under rom-com. It is just idiotic. If you want to comment on the small moments of comedy, say it in your review. The genre should represent the movie, not small pieces of it. If you wanted to label movies like that, almost every movie is every genre. It is ludicrous and I thought being a film student you would be more insightful on the matter. I guess it is true what they say about film students.
Just so you know, Being John Malkovich IS a dark comedy. Eternal Sunshine is not.
