Mysterious skin- Was pretty good, dont really understand why there was a fuss kicked up when it was released. Yes there was pedophilia scenes but they werent over the top or too shocking and were needed for the film to work. It could have ended a bit better though

****

chapter 27- i had wanted to see this for a while as i have always been interesting in finding out more about lennon's death but never got around to it. Jared Leto was pretty good in it and was a convincing fat wierdo. Made me want to read 'the catcher in the rye'

Worst movie I've ever seen is Vanilla Sky. Seriously. Fucking hate the piece of shit.

Sex Drive is funny and cute.
I want to see Fired Up.

I watched 17 Again on the weekend, cos we had foster kids. For the most part it was pretty cliche, but the dorky millionaire and the principal's relationship totally made it awesome.

SW2011 Wishlist: Say Anything (would consider a headlining tour in lieu of SW11), Something Corporate, Dashboard Confessional, Nightmare Of You, Head Automatica, mewithoutYou, As Tall As Lions, Bayside, Armor For Sleep (stop killing my dream)

i love sex drive, one of my favourite movies. when i saw the ad for 17 again i vowed to watch it, if not just for the soundtrack. i embarrassed my friend singing along to mcs in the cinema lol but you're right, it was pretty cliche, though it was funny to see chandler as someone other than chandler, he's packed it on a little which is sad.

i cant wait to see funny people, im going sometime this week i think.

saw inglorious basterds last wednesday. pretty gory, completely forgot thats what tarantino does, but i enjoyed it anyway (not usually a fan of gore). though that might've just been cos me and my friends were making jokes the whole way through it, but who knows for sure?

Think I stand alone when I say I thought the film was alright. But that's ground already covered. Think I'm going to watch Adaptation today, but Waltz With Bashir is staring me right in the face so it will be a hard decision to choose between the two.

I got me an ego boosting sig. Finally!

This is probably in my top 10 worst movies of all time. Horrible, HORRIBLE film.

really? it is quite likely that the subject matter made me enjoy it a lot more than the actual film did. I was mainly interested in learning about what happened in reality. Thinking back it was a bit slow

Shrink - 2009

The movie is centered around Kevin Spacey who is a psychologist that deals specifically with Hollywood celebrities. Each client mirrors some dysfunctionality about his own life i.e. Robin Williams stars as a former actor who is now has a drug addiction - Kevin Spacey's character has a drug addiction.
The movie is about Kevin Spacey dealing with his personal issues since his wife's suicide.

In some regards it is kind of like The Wackness, but is unfair to compare both movies, as they are quite different.

It was a solid movie, with good acting, but was let down in characterisation and the bad ending.

Members of the forum, meet the greatest animated film of all time.

Waltz with Bashir is a true story of the film's director, Ari Folman, as, twenty-four years after the fact, he tries to piece together his involvement with the Sabra and Shatila refugee camp massacres (which are now referred to as genocide rather than massacres) while an Israeli solider in the 1982 Lebanon War. Ari meets with former army comrades and begins to reclaim his memories of the atrocity, and the tale his questions present is both tragic and hilarious (a particular scene involving a tank attempting to navigate the tight Lebanon streets was particularly funny), eventually culminating in a transition to actual footage shot in the wake of the event.

The animation is handled unlike any other film of it's kind. It's more mature and refined in that it doesn't rely on hyperbolised facial features to make a point of emotion nor does it use grand vistas as might be expected. It's subtlety - subtlety in it's art contrasts it to the like of Studio Ghibli films while the subtlety of it's script makes it much better than Waking Life - is actually quite surprising. Besides the obvious fact that Israeli's couldn't hope to shoot a film in Lebanon, especially one about one of the countries darkest moments, there's nothing that really suggested to me why Ari decided to do this as an animated film.

This works in the film's favour though, as the filmmaker's technical finesse is only emboldened by it's use of a genre that is becoming redundant and formulaic as it cements itself in the 'great for kids but parents will love it too' niche. The colour has managed to fuse grittiness into a vibrant palette so that the gravity of the plot is not lost under a visage of beauty and the best visual acting ever witnessed in animated film. It's use of angles, as well as camera movements, define enviable talent and enhance exponentially a magnificently told war story.

This is a film I recommend to everyone. Last year was a great year for films, but this would definitely be in my top 5 for 2008. It's dialogue-heavy, but the visuals will keep even those who don't like foreign language films enthralled for at least two viewings.

I got me an ego boosting sig. Finally!

I liked Princess Mononoke, Film Noir and Chicago 10 a little better than Waltz With Bashir, it was still fucking good though.

Do my eyes deceive me? Katie not out travelling the world saving it one homeless family at a time? How have you been?

I liked Princess Mononoke, but it's made in a completely different style to Waltz With Bashir as you know, and I prefer the latter. Have never seen all of Film Noir, but mainly because I saw a bit at uni and it didn't impress.

Not moving to W.A. as they screwed me around far too much and if I was still up for it I wouldn't be going until next month anyway. Lot of crap has worked itself out since we last talked though.

How are things with you? Back in Melbourne or did you decide to head north-west after Indonesia and go to Italy after all?

Massive fan of Rodney Dangerfield and Sam Kinison, so this movie gets me every time.

Vanessa: Millicent, you look charming. I love your dress. Don't you, Thornton? It's such a lovely shade of green.
Thornton: Yeah. If that dress had pockets, you'd look like a pool table. You should try my Tall & Fat stores. No offense.

Guest: Mr Melon, your wife was just showing us her Klimt.
Thornton: You too, eh? She's shown it to everybody.
Guest: Well, she's very proud of it.
Thornton: I'm proud of mine too. I don't go waving it around at parties, though.
Guest: It's an exceptional painting.
Thornton: ...oh, the painting.

Pig Hunt (2008)

* * * 1/2

Was expecting this to be horrible but it was very suspenseful, violent and awesome, with the exception of the giant pig at the end. Would rather it to have been something the viewer never ended up seeing. Some nice twists and great characters. Features a fair bit of Les Claypool music which was funny with the hillbilly shit and even had him playing the preacher.

It was a spearhead for 'indie' film making as a popular medium, but as you'd expect it didn't last long. Saying that, I did like it.

I saw "My Neighbours the Yamadas" today.
I thought it was really refreshing, cute, funny and touching. But most of all, I loved the animation.

(500) Days of Summer

I enjoyed the movie. It takes into perspective what happens to a guy when a chick he loves doesn't like him/breaks up with him. Females may not fully understand/appreciate a delve into a cliche males psyche. Gordon-Levitt's and Deschanel's performances were outstanding and have amazing chemistry between each other.

I'm hestitant to call this a romantic comedy as it doesn't fit into a typical romantic comedy - and its original. Its been called a boy gets girl, girl break up with guy, and he has to get over it. In reality I don't think he ever truely 'got' her in the first place.

You can call it a rom-com. I call Eternal Sunshine a rom-com and people look at me strangely: before watching the film because they have no idea why I could like one so much, and then after the film because they thought it was too good to be a rom-com.
