Biography

Universally adored for their breathtaking lyrics, contagious melodies and hooks, we are ecstatic to announce JIMMY EAT WORLD are the cherry on top of the already huge lineup for Soundwave 2010.

Before perfecting the craft of pop-punk-emo singalong anthems, JIMMY EAT WORLD formed in 1993 in Mesa, Arizona. Infuenced by fellow Soundwave band Sunny Day Real Estate, JIMMY EAT WORLD dabbled with emo sounds in Static Prevails (1996), serving up a soundtrack to suburban melodrama with screeching punk guitars and nervous vocals. Standing out from the early post-hardcore emo scene with their striking pop sensibility, Clarity was initially overlooked upon it's release in 1999, but has since attained cult status and critical kudos, becoming a defining album of the 90s.

Their commercial breakthrough came in the form of 2001's Bleed American, which featured hits such as "The Middle" and "Sweetness" with singalongs still being celebrated almost 10 years after it's release. Following their success up with album Futures and progressing with their style, JIMMY EAT WORLD established "themselves as a great band, not just a great emo band" (Pop Matters). The latest album, 2007's Chase This Light is "what emo should sound like: big emotions, sure, but also big hooks, big stakes. And big rewards." - Entertainment Weekly

It's obvious to see why JIMMY EAT WORLD have influenced so many bands from all corners of the world. Performing tracks from their incredible back catalog, jumping from calm and melancholy tracks to furious crunching guitars and back again - you'd be a fool to miss them live at Soundwave 2010.
